Job summary

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate reusable instruments following manufacturer guidelines.
• Operate cleaning and sterilization machinery, including washers and pasteurizers.
• Inspect, assemble, sterilize surgical instruments, and prepare trays, monitoring critical sterilization settings.
• Lead department operations in the absence of management, organizing workflow and addressing customer needs.
• Assist in staff training, competency testing, and manage departmental workflow and safety as a charge person.
• Collaborate with staff, OR personnel, and managers, ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and support decision-making processes.

Role Overview

This position requires a knowledgeable Sterile Processing Technician who can perform various tasks to support department operations. The role involves processing surgical instruments, operating decontamination equipment, and ensuring sterilization standards are met. The technician may lead workflow and coordinate tasks in the absence of the SPD Manager, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge through ongoing education and participation in hospital committees.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate reusable instruments following manufacturer guidelines.
• Operate cleaning and sterilization machinery, including washers and pasteurizers.
• Inspect, assemble, sterilize surgical instruments, and prepare trays, monitoring critical sterilization settings.
• Lead department operations in the absence of management, organizing workflow and addressing customer needs.
• Assist in staff training, competency testing, and manage departmental workflow and safety as a charge person.

Qualifications & Skills

• At least three years of Sterile Processing experience.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
• Must obtain Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) certification within one year if not already certified.
• Preferred: Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
