Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician (Non-Certified) for the night shift (11:00pm–7:30am). Responsibilities include decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments, packaging for cases, and quality control of sterilization equipment.

You will also train peers and assist with patient and OR support in a fast-paced environment. Minimum qualification is a high school diploma or GED with an Associate's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, disinfect and clean reusable surgical instruments by mechanical or handwashing methods per standards.
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment; document results and maintain records.
• Prepare and package instrumentation for cases and manage instrument tracking data.
• Stock, clean and transport supplies; assist with training peers and provide customer service to ORs and external customers.
• Follow AAMI and AORN guidelines and promote safety, quality and efficiency.

Job Description Summary: Monday through Friday, Night Shift 11:00pm-7:30am Sterile Processing Technician-Non-Certified are multi-skilled personnel who are responsible for all duties related to the decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment and endoscopes. They are responsible for the preparation and packaging of instrumentation, quality control testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintaining records and preparation of surgical cases. Assigned duties may also include stocking, cleaning, answering phones, transporting supplies, training peers on industry best practices and providing direct customer service to both operating rooms and external customers.

Responsibilities And Duties:

• Responsible for the decontamination, disinfection and cleaning or various reusable surgical instruments. This can be done via mechanical or handwashing methods, while strictly adhering to OSHA safety standards.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of sterilization process and techniques involving both steam and chemical means. This includes appropriate documentation, storage and transportation. Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.
• Effectively enters, modifies and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request.
• Incorporates infection control guidelines while transferring, storing and transporting sterile packages.
• Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEUs.
• Follows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics. Must be able the think critically and act quickly to meet the needs of all patients.
• Responsible for aiding in the education and training of fellow associates. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
