Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, clean, assemble, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments and equipment. You will ensure processing meets regulatory standards and supports patient care areas.

The role requires certification and at least 1 year of sterile processing experience, with adherence to safety, infection control, and record-keeping policies. On-site opportunity in Allegheny County, PA.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma/GED
• Certification: CRCST or CSPDT at hire (does not apply to Sterile Processing Tech hired before 12/29/2020)
• A Surgical Technologist with CST or TSC satisfies license requirement
• Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing
• Incumbents not meeting qualifications have 18 months to obtain them

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort contaminated instruments from departments
• Disassemble instruments and clean with appropriate agents
• Inspect cleaned instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage
• Assemble instrument sets per count sheets and tray lists
• Wrap or package instruments for sterilization
• Monitor sterilization cycles and verify parameters
• Follow safety and infection control policies and use PPE
• Operate and maintain automated washing/decontamination equipment and troubleshoot small issues
• Load and operate sterilization equipment and troubleshoot when needed
• Document sterilization cycles and maintain records
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment
• Assist in training new staff on procedures and equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education

High School Diploma or GED
