Job summary

ECU Health Medical Center in North Carolina is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join the instrument reprocessing team. You will decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and distribute reusable surgical instruments following AAMI guidelines.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least two years of sterile processing experience; certification is not required. The position is on-site with third shift from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• More than 2 Years of Sterile Processing Experience.
• No Certification Required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure instruments are collected, cleaned, decontaminated, assembled and sterilized per AAMI guidelines.
• Verify instruments are in open position, free from bioburden and functioning, report issues.
• Follow IFU guidance and alert supervisor when IFUs are needed.
• Maintain biological/chemical wash solutions for decontamination quality.
• Document sterilization records per AAMI and department policy.
• Sort mismatched instrument sets and notify when items are missing.
• Prepare procedure case carts with needed instruments and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant work area.
• Participate in policy updates, quality improvement, and infection control practices.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Complete required competencies and annual trainings.
• Support ongoing staff education and act as department preceptor.
