Job summary

Harborview Medical Center, part of UW Medicine in Seattle, seeks a Sterile Processing Technician 2 to support the Surgical Services by decontaminating, processing, sterilizing and assembling instrument sets.

Responsibilities include operating cart washer, testing sterilizers, loading autoclave carts, inventory control, and ensuring sterility per policy. Requires high school diploma and 1–2 years in sterile processing; equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND 1–2 years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment
• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items, and patient equipment to the decontamination area for reprocessing
• Assemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators, chest pumps, and hyper/hypothermia units; test and adjust equipment
• Load and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.
• Sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators
• Load autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipment
• Inventory shelves of processed items; rotate trays and products; manage expiration dates
• Decontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standards
• Inspect, test, and assemble package based on guidelines
• Scan, document, and label for inspection, testing, and assembly
