Responsibilities

  • Ensure maintenance and distribution of disposable supplies and durable medical equipment for patient care.
  • Reports malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or Supervisor.
  • Documents sterilizer load contents and applies load labels to items.
  • Disassembles multipart instruments and separates heavy and delicate instruments.
  • Restocks carts as assigned and prepares case carts for surgery.
  • Uses resources in a cost-effective manner for surgery preparation.
Job description

Hours: 11 PM - 7:30 AM, 8/40 - 8 Hour Shift

Weekend Requirements: As Needed

On-Call Required: No

Hourly Pay Range: $25.310 - $31.640 - $37.970

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW. As part of the terms of employment, employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 Year experience in an acute care hospital, sterile processing, or surgery department or completion of a program for sterile processing/central supply technician

  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution

Essential Functions

  • Communication: Reports any malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or Supervisor, provides appropriate information to facilitate receipt of MSDS, maintains necessary verbal communication via clear shift reports and communication logs.
  • Department competency: Completing all initial competencies, consistently demonstrating competency as identified in the on-going assessment and evaluation.
  • Documentation: Documents sterilizer load contents/applies load labels to items, using charts and printouts to track sterilizer loads, including biological and vacuum testing.
  • Instrument processing: Disassembles multipart instruments, separates heavy and delicate instruments, properly cares for powered, lensed and special instruments/equipment.
  • Professional development: Establishing mutually derived annual goals and meets goals, maintaining individual in-service/performance records.
  • Supplies: Restocks carts as assigned, prepares case carts for surgery according to pick lists/preference cards as assigned.
  • Time and resource management: Uses resources in a cost-effective manner, anticipates surgical needs and prepares instrumentation accordingly.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, general hospital supplies and equipment
