Job summary

El Camino Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I for the night shift in our Sterile Processing Department. The role focuses on decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of reusable medical equipment and instrument sets.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus 3 months of sterile processing experience or completion of a sterile processing program. Ongoing SPD training and safety best practices are emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Three months experience in sterile processing and/or operating room in an acute care setting, or successful completion of a sterile processing program.
• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication and customer-service.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• The incumbent is under the supervision of the Manager and Shift Supervisor of the Sterile Processing Department.
• The professional responsibilities are divided into five major areas: decontamination, preparation and assembly, sterilization processing, storage and distribution.
• These responsibilities are successfully accomplished through the use of creative application of knowledge, skills, interpersonal and mentoring competencies, and a high level of professionalism.
• The incumbent will have basic knowledge of RME reprocessing as required by this position.
• The incumbent will be required to develop and maintain current knowledge of SPD procedures, which document the processes, and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position.
• The incumbent will be able to demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination and their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position.
• The incumbent will receive guidance from more experienced staff members and requires frequent and direct supervision.
• Working as team member with other Sterile Processing Technicians of various experience, the incumbent will carry out segments of the daily work utilizing Manufactures Instructions For Use (IFU) in accordance with SPD instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices.
• The incumbent will serve as a proctor for sterile processing students as instructed.
