Job summary

Kern Medical in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I to join its central supply team. You will work in a high-volume environment focused on decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments for the OR.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required; Kern Medical experience in Central Supply preferred.
• Completion of an approved Sterile Processing course or equivalent experience; certification within six months is expected.
• Current BLS card or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
• Knowledge of sterilization methods, decontamination, and instrument handling is essential.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of maintenance, disinfection, cleanliness, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Performs tests ensuring decontamination and sterilization of equipment.
• Monitors and records required logs including test loads and sterilization cycles; reports deviations to leadership.
• Prepares decontamination and clean room with needed supplies and equipment.
• Maintains instruments/trays inventory and labels items with processing date.
• Ensures proper wrapping, labeling, and placement of sterilized items for use.
