Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a dedicated Central Sterile Technician at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to reprocess instruments, sterilize equipment, and prepare OR carts.

The role maintains infection control standards and collaborates with the Surgical team to ensure timely case carts and safe patient care. The position requires CRCST certification or progress toward it, a high school diploma, and preferred prior central service or surgical experience.

Qualifications

• Must possess CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certificate or obtain within one year of hire.
• High School Diploma required.
• Prior Central Service or Surgery experience preferred.
• Follows detailed written and oral instructions.
• Requires reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
• Operate equipment/machinery.

Responsibilities

• Reprocess reusable instruments and equipment in the Sterile Processing department; cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of reusables.
• Completes OR case carts and maintains infection control and JCAHO standards in the work area.
• Maintains accurate sterilization logs and productivity/quality records.
• Coordinate with inventory for replenishment and ensure proper stock organization and cleanliness.
• Assist with orientation and training for sterile supply personnel.
• Support OR and ancillary areas with tray set-ups and patient care equipment preparation.
