Job summary

St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, CO is seeking a Certified Sterile Processing Tech to promote patient safety by ensuring efficient decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments for the OR.

You will operate sterilization equipment and maintain records per AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission and OSHA standards. This PRN role covers shifts within a 6-week cycle and offers a 15% differential on base pay.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required.
• Six months of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps or packages supplies and instruments using proper techniques.
• Packages items to promote successful sterilization.
• Performs cleaning and care according to manufacturer instructions.
• Ensures devices labeled single-use are not reprocessed without FDA guidelines.
• Sterilizes supplies and instruments using approved methods.
• Operates washer/decontaminator per policy.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Sterile Processing Tech, you will promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department, performing routine tasks related to decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and supplies.

Every day you will operate and monitor sterilization equipment, maintain meticulous records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. You will also maintain your certification, monitor/instruct/mentor non-certified staff, and actively facilitate the department's preparation for survey/regulatory assessments, contributing to a culture of patient safety.

To be successful in this role, you will be a Certified Sterile Processing Technician with meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of safety and compliance standards, and a commitment to ensuring quality and patient safety in the OR.

• Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps or packages supplies and instruments using proper techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged in a manner that promotes successful sterilization.
• Understands the recommended practices for cleaning and care of surgical instruments and powered equipment and the device manufacturer's validated and written instructions for use.
• Understands that devices labeled as single-use should not be reprocessed unless the FDA guideline for reprocessing of singleuse devices can be met.
• Sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method (e.g. steam, gas plasma (Sterrad)).
• Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.

This is a PRN position (5 shifts scheduled in a 6-week period). This position is used to cover call-offs, vacations, and where coverage may be needed. PRN is not eligible for benefits but does offer a 15% differential on top of the base rate of pay.
