Job summary

Holy Cross Hospital – Salt Lake is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to promote patient safety by ensuring efficient flow in the Sterile Processing department. You will decontaminate, process, sterilize, and distribute instruments and supplies, and maintain meticulous records per AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities include operating sterilization equipment, monitoring functionality with standard tests, and preparing for regulatory assessments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification within 18 months of hire or transfer.
• Six months of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sterilizes supplies and instruments using approved methods (steam, gas plasma).
• Operates washer/decontaminator per policy.
• Understands basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department.
• Packages items to promote successful sterilization.
• Follows IFU’s and maintains cleanliness of decontamination and equipment areas.
• Validates equipment function using mechanical and biological monitors.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Sterile Processing Tech, you will promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department, performing routine tasks relating to decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and supplies.

Every day you will operate and monitor sterilization equipment, maintain meticulous records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards, and actively assist the department's preparation for survey/regulatory assessments.

To be successful in this role, you will possess meticulous attention to detail in sterile processing, a strong understanding of safety and compliance standards, and a commitment to ensuring quality and patient safety in the operating room.

• Sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method (e.g.steam, gas plasma (Sterrad).
• Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.
• Understands the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department.
• Demonstrates knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged in a manner that promotes successful sterilization.
• Follows manufacturer's recommendations (IFU's) and assures cleanliness of decontamination, sterilization, and equipment areas.
• Validates the proper functioning of all equipment using established mechanical and biological monitors.
