Job summary

Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District in Brawley, CA is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech to join our surgical services team. You will prepare and package sterile supplies, maintain processing areas, and distribute equipment to perioperative teams following established protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent is required.
  • One year of sterile processing experience preferred.
  • CSPDT or CRCST certification within 2 years of hire encouraged.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Follow protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing, packaging, and sterilizing supplies.
  • Distribute sterile supplies to other areas as needed.
  • Adhere to universal precautions including PPE.
  • Operate equipment used in sterile processing safely per manufacturer instructions.
  • Monitor and document results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for sterilizers.
  • Maintain and restock materials for sterile processing services.

Salary Range: $19.28 To $24.96 Hourly

SUMMARY

Responsible for preparing and assembling medical and surgical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment, maintaining the sterile processing areas, and receiving and distributing surgical supplies and equipment .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility or health care organization as needed.
  • Adhere to universal precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.
  • Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
  • Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas.
  • Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician’s preference lists and anticipated needs of the perioperative team.
  • Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for supporting sterile processing services.
  • Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
  • Exhibit professional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Assist with improving the quality of sterile processing services.
  • Assist with identifying pertinent evidence to establish benchmarks as directed.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED/PREFERRED

1. High School or equivalent.

2. Previous clinical experience in a patient care setting preferred, with successful completion of orientation and training to the point of competence.

3. One year of sterile processing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification within 90 days of hire into position.
  • Must be certified Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 2 years of hire.
