Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of Registered/Certified Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Create and update instrument inventory lists and checklists; monitor inventory levels.
  • Order supplies and coordinate with vendors and OR/SPD teams.
  • Maintain instrument sets; manage repairs, replacements, and loaner sets.
  • Keep accurate records of instrumentation and instrument checklists; follow missing instrument reports.

Job Description

Works under the supervision of the Manager-OR/SPD. Performs all the duties of the Registered/Certified Sterile Processing Technologist. Creates and updates instrument inventory lists and checklists. Monitors inventory levels and orders supplies when needed. Coordinates with SPD and OR specialists to maintain appropriate instrument sets. Monitors and tracks instrument repairs and replacements. Manages loaner instrumentation sets. Works closely with Instrument Reps, vendors, and OR Specialists to ensure appropriate instrumentation is available.

Responsibilities
  • Successfully performs all duties of the Registered Sterile Processing Technician as required to meet customer needs or workload requirements.
  • Is an active and participating member of the departmental/specialty team committees and attends as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of instruments/instrument sets and their usage
  • Highly organized with excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proactively and independently orders instruments and implants; works closely with supply chain
  • Monitors and tracks instrumentation repairs and replacements
  • Troubleshoots problems related to instrumentation and sterile processing
  • Maintains accurate records of instrumentation
  • Updates and creates instrument checklists
  • Follows up on missing instrument reports
  • Manages loaner sets and instruments
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Required
Work Experience
  • 2 Years - Must be able to perform the duties of this position within a specified time set by the Director. - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) - Continued employment will be contingent upon maintaining registration. - Required within 90 Days

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Moving carts, instruments, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Assembling instrumentation, supplies, etc.
  • Standing for long periods of time, up to 4 or more hours at a stretch.
  • Operation of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Walking, filling case carts.
  • Pushing and pulling carts and other equipment.
  • Able to lift and carry instrument sets and other equipment of up to 60 pounds.
  • Able to reach above head to put instrument sets on shelf.
  • Able to safely remove instrument sets from shelves without damage.
  • Able to reach, climb on stool, stoop, kneel down.
  • Ability to take departmental calls with 20 minute response time.

  • Able to comprehend surgical procedures, instrumentation and sequence of events.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Visual skills i.e. able to distinguish one instrument from another.
  • Tactile, feel, distinguish colors.
  • Hearing, i.e., another person wearing a mask.
Exposure to Hazards
  • Blood and body fluids, chemical compounds in SPD, EtO, and toxic chemicals for disinfecting.
  • Sticks and cuts from needles and knives.
  • Wet floors.
  • Pathogens from cleaning and disinfecting instrumentation and equipment.
