Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston is seeking a Sterile Processing Educator to design, implement, and evaluate education programs for staff, ensuring standardized, compliant reprocessing practices to support safe patient care.
The role collaborates with OR and clinical leadership, travels between facilities for onboarding and ongoing education, and leads performance improvement initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
The Sterile Processing Educator is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of education, training, and competency programs for Sterile Processing staff. This role ensures standardization of processes, regulatory compliance, and high-quality reprocessing practices to support safe patient care. The Educator serves as a subject matter expert in sterile processing, collaborates with OR and clinical leadership, and travels between facilities as needed to support onboarding, ongoing education, and performance improvement initiatives.
Continuous – 6‑8 hours per shift; Frequent – 2‑6 hours per shift; Infrequent – 0‑2 hours per shift. Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, performing “pinching” operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, using lower extremities for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36” to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force, transferring a 100‑lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force, pushing a 400‑lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet requires 20 lbs., pushing a stretcher with a patient with one hand requires 25 lbs. Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, depth perception, peripheral vision capabilities, maintain hearing acuity, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, maintain good olfactory sensory function, be qualified physically for respirator use.
