Position Summary:

Coordinates activities of the sterile processing department, demonstrating thorough knowledge of sterilization processes, from cleaning and decontamination to packaging, sterilization, and distribution.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Ensure quality and contents of instrument trays meet surgical needs
• Supervise case cart, SPD, and Core operations; develop and configure instrument trays for surgical procedures
• Handle daily processing of case cart supplies and instruments
• Coordinate with vendors to ensure trays are complete and sterilized
• Collaborate with OR staff regarding instruments and supplies
• Assist in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding SPD personnel; manage staff meetings and documentation
• Participate in departmental planning and committees
• Engage in ongoing education and professional organizations
• Manage personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching, and disciplinary actions
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and hospital policies

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure/Certifications: Maintain one of the following:

• CRCST, CHL, CSPDT, CSPDM, or CSPM certifications from recognized bodies

Experience: Minimum 5 years in Central Processing/Surgical Services, with management experience in case cart delivery and SPD operations
