Description:Incumbents in this position are responsible for the decontamination and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with department and infection control policies.
Finds, effectively uses and provides key patient care related information, demonstrating the potential clinical implications.
Exercises judgment that influences the delivery of patient care through process and patient experience.
Responds positively and readily to changing priorities and work assignments.
Washes, disinfects and decontaminates surgical instruments and equipment according to policy.
Sorts, reassembles, wraps, and places instruments in appropriate containers according to instrument cards and appropriate sterilization instructions.
Updates sets and methods of sterilization.
Inspects instruments for integrity, functionality and cleanliness before assembly in containers, wraps or peel pouches.
Maintains accurate instrument sterilization documentation.
Handles instruments, equipment and supplies to maintain their sterility and integrity.
Demonstrates skill and proficiency with the use of all equipment and instrumentation.
Adapts to new learning requirements for use of all new technology.
Follows all established policies, procedures, and safety initiatives.
Protects and respects the confidentiality of personal health information.
Ensures timely completion of individual and department responsibilities and projects that meet department expectations.
Participates in unit and department meetings and activities.
