Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptionally precise, self-motivated, and certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician to anchor daily cleanroom operations in our Nashville facility. Operating under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), you will be the guardian of our sterile environment, responsible for the preparation, compounding, packaging, and distribution of critical sterile medications and technical formulas. This role requires an individual who thrives on autonomy, commands a deep mastery of sterile technique, and is deeply dedicated to maintaining rigorous regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Sterile Compounding & Technical Operations
  • Aseptic Compounding: Prep, measure, mix, and compound sterile medications, intravenous (IV) admixtures, and specialized formulations under a laminar airflow workbench or biosafety cabinet.
  • Product Integrity: Properly label all finished sterile products, ensuring exact adherence to compounding logs, lot numbers, Beyond-Use Dates (BUD), and safety warning protocols.
  • Equipment Mastery: Operate and maintain specialized cleanroom equipment and electronic balances.
  • Prepare sterile compounded medications, including IV admixtures, injections, and specialty preparations.
  • Perform all compounding activities using proper aseptic technique within cleanroom environments.
  • Maintain compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, state pharmacy regulations, and internal quality standards.
  • Accurately document compounding records, batch records, and quality control procedures.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain cleanroom facilities and equipment according to established protocols.
  • Perform routine environmental monitoring and assist with quality assurance activities.
  • Verify medication ingredients, calculations, and labeling prior to final pharmacist verification.
  • Manage inventory of compounding supplies and sterile products.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating pharmaceutical inventory.
  • Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with USP <797> (Sterile Compounding) standards, and where applicable, USP <800> (Hazardous Drugs) protocols.
  • Daily Sanitization: Execute rigorous daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning, sanitization, and sterilization of the cleanroom, anteroom, hoods, and compounding isolators.
  • Environmental Logs: Meticulously document cleanroom operational variables, including pressure differentials, refrigerator/freezer temperature logs, and equipment calibrations.
3. Data Management & Audit Readiness
  • Flawless Documentation: Accurately log formulas, compounding batch records, and sterilization cycles into the pharmacy’s data management system.
  • Audit Compliance: Organize and maintain administrative files, regulatory documents, and media-fill validation records to ensure the facility is continuously audit-ready.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
  • Licensure: Active Pharmacy Technician registration/license in good standing with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods in cleanroom garb and perform repetitive hand-movements required for syringing/compounding.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
  • Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status through the PTCB or ExCPT.
  • Specialized Certification: Completion of a specialized sterile compounding training program or holding a PTCB Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) certification (or willingness to obtain swiftly).
  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, with at least 1 year of direct, hands-on experience in sterile IV compounding.
  • Prior experience working in a compounding environment, specialty infusion pharmacy, or biotechnology laboratory.
  • Deep knowledge of cleanroom environmental monitoring protocols and USP <800> hazardous drug handling.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset - someone who loves building efficient workflows from scratch and doesn't wait around to be told what to do.
Compensation & Total Rewards
  • $25.00 - $28.00 hourly (commensurate with experience and certifications)
  • This role is full-time, in-person in Nashville, Tennessee.
