Pharm Inpt Sterile Ops Team

Job Summary

Performs tasks within the pharmacy in direct support of the ongoing duties and responsibilities of a pharmacist with occasional guidance. Tasks performed contribute directly to the preparation and/or dispensing of a final dosage form for administration to a patient and are directly supervised by a pharmacist. Provides customer service by answering phone requests and triaging calls to the appropriate person if they cannot answer the requested information. Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.

Position Highlights
  • Day shift.
  • Responsibilities include sterile compounding for the Inpatient Central Pharmacy at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
  • Sterile compounding experience is not required. Training is provided.
  • 8‑hour shifts and 10‑hour shifts available.
  • 8‑hour shifts are Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Occasional need to work 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (approximately 3–4 days per month).
  • 10‑hour shifts are Monday – Friday 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Occasional need to work 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Every 3rd weekend rotation.
  • Required to work 3 holidays per year.
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician through either PTCB or NHA.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
  • Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.
  • Performs activities as directed by pharmacists and/or pharmacy managers in accordance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Operates computer systems and utilizes technology.

Technical Capabilities
  • Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates basic understanding of computers or has completed training for pharmacy applications.
  • Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution (Novice): Proficient in preparing, dispensing, and distributing prescribed medications; basic principles of asepsis for sterile preparations.
  • Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Novice): Knowledge of rules and regulations, commitment to quality improvement, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Drug Inventory & Records Management (Novice): Maintains appropriate inventory levels, organizes, and maintains pharmacy or patient related records.
Position Qualifications
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician – National Healthcareer Association or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board; licensed pharmacy technician in Tennessee.
  • Less than 1 year experience.
  • Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program.
  • Experience: Relevant work experience.
