Position: Research Technician II (Fully Grant Funded)

This full-time role supports a longitudinal survey of adolescents and their parents, focusing on familial economic precarity and adolescent mental health.

Study Description

The primary duties involve collecting data for the STEPS project, a study of 700 adolescent-caregiver dyads in Durham, NC, and Pittsburgh, PA, examining how economic hardship impacts adolescent well-being.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct outreach with community organizations to enroll families, coordinating with STEPS staff.
  2. Maintain databases related to survey participation and community partners.
  3. Coordinate research activities and database issues with project managers.
  4. Assist investigators in research implementation.
  5. Screen, recruit, and obtain informed consent from families.
  6. Schedule family interviews via email, phone, or text.
  7. Enter interview data and manage data transfer.
  8. Contribute to administrative records and technical reports.
  9. Distribute monthly newsletters to participants.
  10. Analyze data and contribute to scholarly articles.
  11. Manage STEPS staff at the Durham site, including organizing meetings and coordinating schedules.
  12. Engage with project leadership on deliverables and quality improvements.
  13. Provide workshops on teen mental health to community organizations.
  14. Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in psychology, public health, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and team collaboration ability.
  • Interest in early childhood development practices.
  • Knowledge of statistical software (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R) preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Availability for some nights and weekends.
  • Comfort working with parents and children.
  • Readiness to communicate with team members during and outside work hours.

  • Salary range: USD $18.69 to $28.28 per hour, based on experience and responsibilities.
