Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake in Murray, Utah is seeking a STEM Youth Mentor to run STEM activities for youth aged 8-12, with 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The role involves transporting youth, mentoring, and ensuring consistent attendance.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, be able to pass background and drug screening, and ideally be pursuing a STEM field; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR check, and drug screening.
  • Preferred: currently in school for a STEM-related field; bilingual Spanish/English.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily STEM and academic activities for youth ages 8-12.
  • Transport youth in Club vehicles for activities and field trips.
  • Ensure engagement and promote consistent attendance of youth enrolled in activities.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and role modeling to youth.
  • Submit lesson plans and attendance and other paperwork regularly.
  • Plan special events like guest speakers or field trips.
  • Abide by safety policies and procedures; attend local trainings.

Title: Youth Development Professional (YDP)

Reports to: Program Director

Salary Range: $15-$17 - DOE; Eligible to receive an additional $1,565 Education Award at the end of the program

Hours: 25* hours per week- Monday, Thursday, Friday 2:00-6:30pm, Wednesday 12:30-6:30pm, Tuesday 1:30-6:30pm

*Potential for more hours during summer programming.

JOB SUMMARY:

In partnership with AmeriCorps, STEM Youth Development Professionals (YDP) facilitate fun, engaging, and age-appropriate STEM-related activities for youth or teens from diverse backgrounds. Using our three priority outcomes - academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles - as a guide, Youth Development Professionals run programs, offer support, and ensure that every Club Member has an Optimal Club Experience that sets them up for lifelong success.

Successful YDPs have a passion for serving others and contributing to the well-being of the community at large. Youth Development Professionals have the ability to connect with young people and offer supportive relationships. They are team players willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that Club Members are safe, recognized, and given the opportunity to learn new skills.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Plan and implement daily group activities with a focus on STEM and academics with youth ages 8-12
  • Transport youth in Club vehicles (school pick-ups, fieldtrips, etc.)
  • Ensure engagement and promote consistent attendance of youth enrolled in activities
  • Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, and role modeling
  • Provide active supervision, continually interacting with all members
  • Submit regular lesson plans, attendance sheets, and other paperwork responsibilities
  • Plan special events, such as guest speakers, performances, or field trips
  • Abide by and carry out safety policies and procedures
  • Attend local trainings

Needed Knowledge:

  • Ability to work in high-energy, loud, and active settings with large groups of youth and teens
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and accomplish them in a detailed, timely mannerExcellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with Club Members, peers, parents, community leaders, etc.
  • Self-motivated, and comfortable with both independent and collaborative processes
  • Strong group management skills

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR check, and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently in school for a STEM-related field, or interest in STEM and educational programming for youth
  • 21 years and over (to meet driving requirements), and be willing and able to drive 15-passenger vans
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

The pay range for this role is:

15 - 17 USD per hour(Miller Club)
