Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance (MMSA) in Augusta, ME, seeks a STEM Education Specialist - Mathematics. This part-time, per-diem, non-exempt role supports grades 6-12 math educators through high-quality professional learning, coaching, and curriculum implementation.

The position is hybrid with travel across Maine and up to 20 hours per week. Compensation is $50/hour with travel expenses covered and remote-friendly collaboration.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in math or education required; MA/MS preferred.
  • Experience designing and leading math professional learning for grades 6-12.
  • Knowledge of math standards and practices for grades 6-12.
  • Experience as instructional coach or PLC facilitator.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver math-focused professional learning and coaching for grades 6-12.
  • Manage school/district partnerships and communicate goals, progress and next steps.
  • Adapt services to meet needs of teachers, schools, or districts.
  • Collaborate with MMSA specialists to plan and deliver services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance (MMSA) - Augusta, ME (hybrid; in-state travel)
Status:

Part-Time, Per-Diem, non-exempt, $50/hour

Overview

MMSA seeks a STEM Education Specialist - Mathematics who will be an integral team member and serve as an organizational representative in math-focused education initiatives. This position will add capacity to MMSA's School Support Consulting team to design and facilitate high-quality professional learning experiences that support educators and administrators in integrating high-quality math learning experiences throughout the preK-12 experience, with a focus on grades 6-12. The right candidate will have the opportunity to deepen and share their skills in mathematics education methods, program development, and best practices in professional learning for math instruction and assessment to move Maine STEM education practice forward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver school and district services: Co-design and deliver services consistent with MMSA's mathematics support offerings, including research-informed professional learning experiences, instructional coaching, curriculum implementation, strategic planning, and intervention and differentiation support. This position will primarily serve Grades 6-12 math educators.
  • Manage partner relationships: Communicate regularly with school and district administrators regarding goals, progress, deliverables, and next steps.
  • Exercise professional judgement: Adapt services and approaches to meet the needs of each teacher, school, or district.
  • Collaborate with colleagues: Work independently or alongside other MMSA specialists to plan and deliver services based on the needs of each partnership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a per diem position with hours that fluctuate based on school partner and organizational demand, up to 20 hours per week.

Regular travel throughout Maine is required, including occasional overnight travel. Travel expenses are paid by MMSA. This position may work from home for part of their time, as desired.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required in any math or education-related field, with preference given to individuals with master's degrees or higher.
  • 5-6 years combined education & experience.
    • Example: BA/BS Degree (4 years) + 0-3 years' experience; MA/MS Degree (6 years).
    • Experience designing and leading mathematics professional learning and coaching for educators, preferably in middle and high school settings.
    • Knowledge of and experience with implementing mathematics teaching practices and student standards for mathematical practices in grades 6-12.
    • Prior experience as an instructional coach or facilitator of a professional learning community (PLC).
    • A clear understanding of the diverse teaching and learning contexts present in Maine and New England.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences through in-person and online relationship building.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an essential and productive member of a team.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong Google Workspace knowledge, use of standard office equipment, use of Mac computers and technology.
    • Strong technology and software skills and experience.
    • Ability to work on a remote-based team with a wide range of personalities and interests.
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a distributed team structure.
