Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred.
• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in carpentry and small‑machine usage.
• At least one year experience instructing.
• Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach or co‑lead daily activities.
• Build strong relationships with and among students.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in woodworking fields.
• Follow safety plans and procedures.
• Build and maintain safe environments for students using tools and small machinery.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel and parents/guardians.
• Establish goals for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities and demonstrate the use of materials and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

What is a Maker & Woodworking Specialist:

This program is a hands‑on woodworking and design initiative where youth from grades 6‑12 learn tangible life skills using traditional hand tools. Through project‑based learning, the STEM Maker & Woodworking Instructor will bridge the gap between STEM concepts and physical creation, teaching creativity, craftsmanship, and structural problem‑solving in a safe, supportive environment. We use real tools and real materials to build real confidence.
