SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy in Canton, MS is hiring STEM Educators for K–5. We are a startup, growing into 5th grade, building a hands-on, inquiry-driven program. You will design lessons, use data to pursue mastery, and help shape a campus-wide STEM culture.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach hands-on, inquiry-driven STEM lessons for K–5 scholars

• Hold data up as a mirror to ensure the program is effective
• Facilitate learning with student-led thinking, discussion, and discovery
• Integrate coding, robotics, outdoor learning, or makerspace where possible
• Engage families through nights and community partnerships
• Help build a K–5 STEM program Mississippi schools want to copy

Canton, Mississippi • Full-Time, School Year • Reports to the Provost • Tuition-free public charter school (currently K–4, growing into 5th grade)

We are not hiring someone to maintain our test scores. We're hiring someone who wants to prove a point.

There is a quiet assumption in this country that children from certain communities can not post top numbers. Our scholars already disproved it once — 88% of our 3rd graders passed the Mississippi ELA reading assessment on their first attempt, more than 10 points above the state average. Now we are building the team that does it again, in STEM.

SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy is hiring STEM Educators for grades K–5. We prefer candidates who hold a Mississippi teaching certification — or who are actively working toward one. And be clear-eyed about what this is: we are a startup school in year four, growing into 5th grade. Some of what you need does not exist yet. You will help build it. We want an entrepreneurial mindset — founding-team energy, not "that's not my role."

What you'll do:

• Design and teach hands-on, inquiry-driven STEM lessons for K–5 scholars — build it, test it, measure it, break it, try again
• Use data to chase mastery, not just proficiency, and catch every scholar before they fall behind
• Hold the data up as a mirror — check your own numbers honestly to answer the only question that matters: is what I'm doing actually working?
• Facilitate learning instead of lecturing — your scholars do the thinking, the talking, and the discovering
• Bring coding, robotics, outdoor learning, or making into the classroom (a plus, not a prerequisite)
• Advocate for education beyond your classroom walls — family nights, community events, neighborhood partnerships
• Help build a K–5 STEM program other Mississippi schools want to copy Live our commitment to excellence — a high bar for every scholar, and the support to clear it

What we're looking for:

• Mississippi teaching certification — held, in progress, or an alternate route you're ready to start (we'll support you through it)
• Bachelor's degree in education, a STEM discipline, or a related field
• A startup, entrepreneurial mindset — you see a gap and build the bridge
• High energy, real creativity, and unshakable professionalism
• A willingness to be measured — you go to the data to find out if you're effective instead of waiting to be told, and you'd rather see an uncomfortable number early than a comfortable assumption all year
• Genuine warmth and the same high expectations for scholars of every socioeconomic background
• A conviction that a child's ZIP code and a child's ceiling have nothing to do with each other
• Bonus: coding (Scratch, Code.org), robotics (LEGO Education, VEX, Bee-Bots, drones), outdoor and place-based learning, or makerspace experience
