Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Seguin, Texas is seeking a Steel Texas Electrical Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience across our industrial operations. You'll work with engineers in our recycling, fabrication, and mills to learn processes, safety practices, and project execution.

The internship runs during the summer months, offering cross-department exposure, mentorship, and a pathway to future opportunities at CMC.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an accredited university program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Currently enrolled and able to commit to a Summer internship (June–August).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or with a team.
• Experience with Windows OS and engineering software like AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Willingness to handle physical duties and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Cross-train through departments to learn hands-on industrial/engineering technologies.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through process improvements.
• Collaborate with CMC team on improvement initiatives and projects.
• Prepare a presentation/report on an improvement project at internship end.
• Support safety programs and uphold CMC Safety Culture.

What You'll Do

• Cross-train through the department to learn hands-on skills related to industrial/engineering technologies
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend cost saving opportunities by identifying process, quality and safety related improvement projects
• Work closely with other on the CMC Team work on process improvement initiatives & projects
• Presentation/Report on an improvement project at the end of internship
• Troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture

What You'll Need

• Must possess a strong interest in Industrial Engineering Technologies and be enrolled at Junior/Senior level education
• Able to work a flexible schedule to include 40 hour work weeks during summer (June-August)
• Able to work independently, take initiative and drive for results with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of processes in Microsoft windows, engineering software such as Auto CAD and Solid Works
• Ability to understand and apply ISO work instructions and standard operating practices and procedures
• Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
• Push and pull up to 90 lbs and carry 50 lbs
• Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication
• Previous internship experiences preferred

Your Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited university program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field at time of internship (Junior level or higher preferred)
