Job summary

Priority Dispatch Corp. is seeking a skilled Shipfitter to fabricate, lay out, position, align, and fit metal components according to blueprints and layouts. You will weld and assemble units using jigs, torches, and hand tools while ensuring workmanship meets exact specifications.

Responsibilities include verifying work pieces against specs, tack-welding, measuring with squares and tapes, and moving parts with cranes or hoists. A high school diploma and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Graduate or GED (minimum).
  • Experience: Six months to one year related experience.
  • Computer Skills: General Computer Skills, Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Tack-weld fitted parts together.
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.

Reasonable Accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.**Essential Functions Statement(s)*** Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.* Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.* Tack-weld fitted parts together.* Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.* Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.* Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.* Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.* Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.* Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.* Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.* Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.* Smooth work piece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves.* Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.* Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers.* Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.* Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.* Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.* Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.* Lift or move materials and finished products, using large cranes.* Heat-treat parts, using acetylene torches.* Preheat work pieces to make them malleable, using hand torches or furnaces.* Install boilers, containers, and other structures.* Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies.* And miscellaneous duties as may be required.## Qualifications**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS****Competency Statement(s)*** Accuracy -
