Job description

PrideStaff is seeking an experience Steel Loader for a metal fabrication manufacturing company located in Matthews, NC.The Steel Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient loading of steel and canopy component parts onto trailers for delivery to customer job sites. This role ensures the proper handling, loading, and securing of materials in compliance with company and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines to support accurate and timely deliveries.

Location: Matthews, NC 28105
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00am-4:30pm
Pay Rate: $18-$20/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
• Perform morning safety checks on equipment and trailers.
• Review and understand work orders and loading paperwork for accuracy.
• Calculate the weight of steel loads to ensure proper handling and load balancing.
• Conduct daily inspections of trucks, including oil and air compressor checks.
• Inspect trailers for hazards or issues before loading.
• Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to load steel onto trailers within the Steel Department.
• Review shipping manifests to ensure that all materials are properly loaded and accounted for.
• Secure materials on trailers using proper banding, strapping, and other DOT-compliant procedures.
• Safely move loaded trailers to designated areas and bring empty trailers inside for loading.
• Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain consistent, quality performance.
• Proficient in using and reading a tape measure.
• Skilled in operating overhead cranes and forklifts.

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship program, relevant experience, or on-the-job training is advantageous.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $18.00 - $20.00
