Job summary

Big Top Manufacturing, Perry, FL, is seeking a Steel Fabrication Operator to produce high‑quality parts and meet production objectives. You will read complex sketches, verify tube sizes, and mark tubing accurately while maintaining safety standards in a busy shop environment.

Expect to operate forklifts, participate in training, and support preventive maintenance. Strong math skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year work history or military service with honorable discharge preferred.
• Read and verify complex sketches prior to producing parts.
• Ability to read a tape measure to the 1/16 inch.
• Proactive about safety and following procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all parts are produced on time and are of good quality.
• Read and verify sketches prior to producing parts; check in-process against sketches.
• Verify tube size matches sketch before running.
• Measure and accurately mark tubing for production.
• Accurately count number of pieces ran.
• Minimize material waste.
• Responsible for care and preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Follow all safety guidelines and report violations to supervisor.
• Assist in training new personnel on safety, production, and quality standards.
• Follow instructions given by supervisor.
• Responsible for housekeeping in your area and the entire facility.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Steel Fabrication Operator reports directly to the Steel Fabrication Supervisor. Steel Fabrication Operators are responsible for achieving immediate and short-term production objectives laid down by the Steel Fabrication Supervisor. This position requires near perfect attendance and punctuality. Employees are expected to be in their department area before the shift starts. Reasonable overtime hours may be required to meet production needs.

Required Skills And Abilities

• Team Player.
• Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Ability to operate forklift and obtain certification within three months (on-the-job training provided).
• Basic understanding of hand tools and how to properly use them.
• Ability to read a tape measure to the 1/16".
• Proficient in math, both decimal and inch calculations.
• Ability to follow company safety procedures and processes.

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year work history or military service with honorable discharge preferred.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to accurately exchange information with co-workers and management.
• Heavy lifting (50lbs) is required on a regular basis.
• Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials.
• Ability to remain at workstation for long periods of time while using tools and machinery and performing repetitive actions.
• Manual dexterity to evaluate, modify and operate machinery and equipment.
• Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
• Temperature of work environment ranges from 15 - 110F.
• Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 am - 5:00 pm. Hours subject to change at the discretion of management. Overtime is required, as needed to support production goals.
