Job summary

Transcontinental Steel, Inc. in Piscataway, NJ, is seeking a Steel Detailer to prepare accurate shop drawings and detailed plans for structural steel and related components, based on architectural and engineering drawings.

You will review project specifications, create and update 2D and 3D models, coordinate connection details, and ensure dimensions and materials are clearly documented for fabrication and erection.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Steel Detailing and experience preparing Shop Drawings for structural steel projects.
• Ability to interpret and coordinate Architectural Drawings with engineering documents.
• Knowledge of Steel Structures, including typical connections, members, and fabrication practices.
• Familiarity with Rebar detailing or reinforcement layouts is beneficial.
• Experience with relevant detailing software - Advanced Steel a plus (e.g., Tekla, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar CAD tools).
• Strong attention to detail, mathematical and spatial reasoning skills, and ability to identify discrepancies.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, fabricators, and field teams.
• Understanding of applicable codes and standards (e.g., AISC) and general construction practices.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work on-site in Piscataway, NJ and manage multiple projects within deadlines.

Role Description The Steel Detailer is a full-time, on-site position based in Piscataway, NJ. This role is responsible for preparing accurate shop drawings and detailed plans for structural steel and related components, based on architectural and engineering drawings. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project specifications, creating and updating 2D and 3D models, coordinating connection details, and ensuring dimensions and materials are clearly documented for fabrication and erection. The Steel Detailer will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and shop personnel to resolve design conflicts, identify potential issues, and maintain consistency with industry standards and building codes. The role also involves managing revisions, maintaining organized documentation, and meeting project deadlines while supporting overall quality and accuracy.
