Job summary

Watco seeks a dedicated individual to support cargo operations at our Houston location. Starting pay is $19 per hour, DOE, with on-the-job training and development opportunities within Watco's logistics network.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Receive cargo to be exported.
• Assist with loading export cargo to vessels.
• Receive import cargo from vessels.
• Inventory cargo using paperwork and handheld devices.
• Verify paperwork matches cargo and designated vessel/port.
• Ensure cargo weights and dimensions meet safe working limits.
• Communicate with drivers and warehouse staff to coordinate cargo operations.
• Locate and verify cargo on load lists.
• Inspect and document cargo condition prior to movement.
• Mark cargo appropriately.
• Follow safety plan and wear PPE.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Schedule: Day/Night shifts, 12 hours

Steel Checkers note every component that's loaded or unloaded from vessel ships and barges. Checkers will utilize paperwork, and often use handheld computerized scanners. They find, evaluate, record all cargo, and support other needs of the operation. If they find damages to containers or cargo, missing cargo, or loose cargo, they alert supervisors before discharging.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Receives cargo to be exported
• Assists with loading export cargo to vessels
• Receives import cargo from vessels
• Utilizes paperwork and handheld devices to inventory cargo
• Verifies paperwork to match cargo being received or exported is aligned with vessel and the port of discharge the cargo is designated for
• Verifies cargo weights and dimensions to ensure that equipment being utilized for operations is within safe working capacity
• Communicates via 2-way radio with drivers, clerks, warehouse personnel, security guards to coordinate logistics of cargo operations
• Locates and verifies all cargo that is on the load list
• Inspects and documents condition of cargo prior to any movement of cargo
• Appropriately marks each piece of cargo
• Compliance with the company safety plan, including utilization of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times when in a work zone
• Utilizes hand-eye coordination, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, dexterity, and precision during their daily work assignments
• Performs other duties as assigned
