Job Description
Nature and Level of Work:

Under direct supervision, train for and perform tasks related to the operation of the potable water system, steam production equipment, fuel and ash handling systems, and auxiliary systems in the power plant.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Check and operate potable water pumping stations and associated equipment to maintain proper water pressure. Test and adjust chlorination systems to ensure proper disinfection levels. Report problems, perform minor maintenance, and investigate issues.
  2. Assist the Steam Plant Operator II with boiler operation, including draft and combustion control, feed water, steam systems, auxiliary equipment, soot blowing, boiler water chemistry, and related tasks.
  3. Assist in operating power plant material handling systems, including coal and biomass conveyors, ash removal, and fuel unloading.
  4. Operate auxiliary equipment, perform housekeeping, routine maintenance, lubrication, and report issues.
  5. Complete training programs for Steam Plant Operator I and II within specified timeframes, attending additional training as needed.
  6. Coordinate work safely with control room operators and maintenance staff to prevent plant upset or trips.
  7. Follow all safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures, attending all required training and meetings.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision

Received from a designated supervisor; no supervision exercised.

Shift

Rotating shift.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or comparable experience and education.
  • One year of industrial/mechanical plant experience, boiler experience preferred.
  • Ability to work safely in heavy industrial environments with high-temperature boilers, high-pressure systems, high voltage, and large machinery.
  • Effective reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude for routine maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license for operation in Missouri.
  • Must complete all training requirements for Steam Plant Operator I within 6 months, and II within 2 years, or employment will be terminated.
  • Compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies.
  • Physical ability to lift objects, climb heights, work in dusty, hot, humid environments, and work rotating shifts.
Pre-Employment Test

Applicants must pass an industrial reading test with a score of 60% or higher to be eligible.

Salary Range

$20.00 - $24.00 per hour
