Steam Plant Operator - Full Time - Day/Nights

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure, gas and oil-fired steam boilers.
  • Complete record keeping for plant operations and equipment.
  • Follow emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation protocols, and disaster response plans.
  • Maintain a safe environment by identifying hazards and following safety protocols.
  • Ensure the work area is clean, organized, and adheres to infection prevention standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and address environmental hazards proactively.
  • Lock out unsafe equipment and report issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Operate boilers according to specifications and codes, perform tests, and maintain water treatment levels.
  • Record and report operational data, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Comply with fire safety codes and emergency response procedures.
  • Utilize the Facility Work Order System and assist with facility tasks, including swing operator duties.
Required Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating high-pressure boiler systems (minimum three years preferred).
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift objects and respond quickly to equipment failures.
  • Work may involve climbing ladders and working at heights.
  • Work environment may be warm and not air-conditioned.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently are essential.
Location and Shift
  • Location: Cayuga Medical Center, 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca NY
  • Shift: Swing shift, including all applicable shifts for the role.
Pay Range
  • $29.00 to $37.00 per hour
