Job summary

University of New Mexico is seeking an Outreach Educator to facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences in STEAM for audiences of all ages. The role emphasizes customer service, a welcoming environment, and collaboration with Explora Education Team.

Degree-in-progress in education or related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred; Spanish fluency is a plus. The position requires working evenings for family science nights and may include occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young teens, especially in an informal setting.
• Degree-in-progress in field of emphasis (education, family studies, physical science, biology, art, early childhood) or equivalent experience in out-of-school education settings.
• Expressed interest in scientific and artistic phenomena and in education.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills; good verbal and written communication skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Facilitate demonstrations, activities and programs in STEAM for a variety of audiences.
• Facilitate experiential educational programs for a variety of audiences, both at Explora and in the community.
• Facilitate inquiry and experiential educational programs.
• Collaborate with other educators and Explora staff members in program development and materials maintenance.
• Deal with difficult situations and elevate as needed.
• Comply with safety and operational policies.
• Provide excellent customer service and welcoming atmosphere.
• Interact with students, staff, parents, and coworkers.
• Maintain a valid driver's license if travel is required.
• Support evening family science nights and weekend activities.
