Crossroads YMCA is seeking a STEAM Instructor I to support youth development and healthy living initiatives at the Hammond Family YMCA in Hammond, IN. The role focuses on creating engaging STEAM experiences and delivering a welcoming environment for members, guests, and participants.

You will lead educational activities, implement curriculum, and collaborate with staff to ensure safety and adherence to YMCA policies while building strong community connections.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Flexible to work evenings and weekends.
• CPR/AED & First Aid, New Employee Orientation, and online trainings required within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups.
• Must have a passion for working with young children.

Position Type: Part Time

Pay starts at $11.00 and up per hour based on experience.

Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. STEAM Instructor I provides excellent customer service to all members, guests, and program participants by responding to their needs and creating a welcoming and fun environment.

Essential Functions

• Lead event activities in a manner that ensures an elevated level of customer satisfaction.
• Create memorable and educational experiences for participants.
• Demonstrate a friendly, courteous, and professional manner with volunteers, staff, parents, and participants.
• Supervise and participate in activities with all children.
• Implement curriculum and activity plans within the established guidelines.
• Understand, articulate, and enforce YMCA policies and procedures in a positive way by giving safety briefings and ensuring that all policies are being adhered to.
• Maintain required program records and equipment needs.
• Improvise quickly and appropriately when faced with unexpected circumstances, to better meet the needs of members and their children.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required trainings: Duty to Report and Keeping your YMCA Safe.
