Job description

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within The School of Medicine, with approximately 164 Faculty members, 72 post-doctoral fellows, and over 300 support staff (excluding hospital staff). Additionally, the department oversees 110 clinical residents and fellows across various divisions. Its core missions—research, education, and patient care—are deeply intertwined and contribute to the department's overarching goals. Recently, the department experienced significant growth, with a consolidated budget of approximately $138 million, including about $65 million in sponsored project expenditures and over $73 million in clinical revenue. This expansion is expected to continue in the coming years.

The department comprises 17 divisions, including Academic General Pediatrics, Child Development & Community Health, Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology, Cardiology, Environmental Science & Health, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Genome Information Sciences, Hematology / Oncology, Hospital Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, Nephrology, Pharmacology & Drug Discovery, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Respiratory Medicine.

In 2001, UCSD, Rady Children’s Hospital, and Children’s Specialists of San Diego unified their pediatric care, research, education, and community programs, creating a comprehensive children’s health system. Over the past two decades, this partnership has fostered numerous joint programs, with many physicians and researchers collaborating across institutions. This affiliation has integrated UCSD’s Department of Pediatrics with San Diego’s only health system dedicated solely to children’s health. The partnership was further strengthened in 2009 with the creation of the Rady Children’s Specialist of San Diego, a Medical Foundation, which has established a reputation for leadership in research, technology, translational medicine, education, and clinical practice.

The Division of Environmental Science & Health focuses on four main areas: 1) clinical services for patients with birth defects and developmental disabilities; 2) public health outreach regarding prenatal and breastfeeding exposures; 3) educational programs for students across various disciplines; and 4) clinical research. The Center for Better Beginnings conducts research to understand, prevent, and treat birth defects and developmental disabilities. The division manages federal, state, and industry grants totaling over $40 million, supporting both national and international studies that involve complex infrastructure and collaboration.

The Research Data Analyst will perform standard to moderately complex statistical analyses for investigators within the Division. Responsibilities include preparing reports, consulting on study design, assisting students, contributing to manuscripts and grants, and improving data management procedures. The role also involves exploring new statistical methods, optimizing programming scripts, and training team members as needed. The analyst exercises judgment within established policies to select appropriate methods for data analysis.
