Description

Senior Analyst / Statistics in the Health Economics and Outcomes Research Division of OptumInsight, an Optum Company, will work with a variety of pharmaceutical research projects using claims and clinical data to generate publishable deliverables for Life Sciences customers.

This employee will interpret the research protocol, guide the development of an individual level data created by programmers and perform advanced analytics and consulting.

The SA-S is responsible for creating project specification, data verification, descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis, creating tables for final reports and contributing to methods and interpretation.

The SA-S will also participate in research infrastructure projects and act as a statistical consultant for the researchers.

Job Components

  • - Act as Analyst for custom clinical research studies under the direction of PhD-level Research staff and external clients (85%) may include (but are not limited to)
  • - Act as the primary analyst to generate study deliverables and coordinate and assess the quality of efforts of other analysts and SAS programmers over 6-12 month study
  • - Work on 4-6 studies at a time
  • - Review and contribute to study protocol, informing data and methods sections and performing sample size and power calculations
  • - Anticipate study design and data issues (e.g. potential bias, data availability, and project timelines) and provide suggestions to PhD-level Researchers.
  • - Translate research protocol into technical specifications and data dictionaries for SAS programming and data extraction
  • - Write custom SAS programs to verify the creation of analytic dataset and explore source claims or clinical data
  • - Execute descriptive and advanced multivariate analysis (e.g., HD-PSM, DiD, predictive modelling, 2-part cost modelling).
  • - Create client-ready results in tables/figs/graphs and inform study reports
  • - Interpret analytic results and provide analytic input and quality review for final reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, posters and presentations
  • - Communicate study results to Research Lead, providing interpretation and calling out unexpected results
  • - Document study process and changes to ensure compliance with SOPs and audit readiness
  • - Review, track, and manage study documents for completeness and accuracy
  • - Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on claims and clinical data and HEOR-departmental standards for translating into patient-level metrics and outcomes
  • - Mentor & develop junior staff - Infrastructure projects (10%) may include (but are not limited to)
  • - Developing / maintaining standard programs for the department standard library, with focus on repeatable and efficient analytic programs
  • - Monitoring new data being incorporated into the Optum Research Database (ORD) –our research data source and understanding how to use the new data for project development and analysis
  • - Understand data provenance and explore potential data quality in ORD, assess possible impact to studies and suggest processes to resolve
  • - Contributing to the development of the department intranet or SharePoint facility
  • - Documentation and training (5%) may include (but are not limited to)
  • - Stay informed of current database issues and processes to resolve
  • - Expand knowledge of new analysis methods or analytic platforms
  • - Participation in maintenance of project reference materials and review with new employees
  • - Training new employees on applications used by the department

Required Qualifications

  • ? Master’s Degree with 3 years of work experience or Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of work experience in Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Services Research, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Quantitative Social Sciences, Statistics, Data Sciences, or Information Systems
  • ? Minimum of 3 years of SAS, R, Stata, or other relevant statistical programming experience
  • ? Minimum of 2 years’ experience in HEOR, primary or secondary data in managed care/health care/pharmaceutical claims/EHR data or clinical trials in a research capacity
  • ? Minimum of 1 year experience summarizing and presenting research results

Preferred Qualifications

  • ? Competent to logically and meaningfully convert research protocol to programming specification
  • ? Established data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • ? Experience with technical writing
  • ? Experience with relational databases or other structured data
  • ? Knowledge of medical claims coding
  • ? Experience with additional programming languages or platforms (e.g. SQL, R, Python, Tableau, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic for Applications, Microsoft Azure or AWS)
  • ? Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to prioritize, coordinate the work of others, meet deadlines and follow through on completion of complex projects
  • ? Established ability to execute multi-step data management tasks, recognize technical problems and solve with some supervision ?
  • Established ability to perform most tasks with minimal supervision
  • ? Established ability to be detail-oriented
  • ? Established ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers
  • ? Established ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • ? Established ability to provide mentoring of junior staff in certain aspects
