Job summary

Costello Medical in Boston is seeking a Statistician to join our Analytics team. The role involves designing statistical analysis plans, analyzing patient-level and real-world data, and communicating methods and results to clinicians and clients.

You will work in cross-functional project teams, manage multiple studies, and contribute to publications and health-economic submissions. The position offers hybrid working with up to half time remote and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Degree in statistics or mathematics with GPA 3.3 or higher.
  • Proficiency in R; capable of rapid programming.
  • Experience with Python, Stan, SQL is desirable.
  • Excellent written English.

Job description

Role Summary

Our Statistics team provides statistical and analytical expertise across Costello Medical, devising statistical analysis plans and performing data analysis within R, Excel, Stan, SQL and BUGS software. They communicate the methodologies and results in written and oral formats to drug and device manufacturers and doctors. The statistical analyses vary across patient‑level clinical trial data, observational study (real‑world) data, and published aggregate data. Our work involves basic statistical analysis of individual patient data, regression analysis, survival analysis and complex Bayesian network meta‑analysis using both standard and emerging methods.

Responsibilities
  • Devising and performing statistical analysis plans.
  • Communicating methodologies and results to clients in written and oral formats.
  • Working in project teams with colleagues from all specialities to ensure projects are completed to a high standard, on time and in line with client expectations.
  • Participating in client calls and face‑to‑face meetings with external stakeholders following an induction period.
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects and supporting publication, value material, health economic model or health technology assessment submissions.
Compensation

Salary $75,000 to $80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications, education and previous experience.

Hybrid Working Policy

Employees may work from home for up to half of their time, measured over a 2‑week rolling period. Employees may also work outside Massachusetts for up to 4 weeks annually.

Required Qualifications
  • Degree level or higher qualification in a scientific or mathematical discipline (minimum GPA 3.3) with a focus on statistics and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in the R programming language and ability to rapidly develop programming skills.
  • Technical and mathematical ability, plus written and oral communication skills to explain complex techniques to non‑experts.
  • Willingness to trial, explore or recommend new software or techniques for specific projects.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain quality of deliverables under competing demands.
  • Strong organisation, flexibility to respond to changing deadlines, and initiative to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Excellent written English (assessed during selection).
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific or mathematical discipline.
  • Experience with Python, Stan, SQL.
  • Experience in or knowledge of medical data, clinical processes or trials.
