Clearance Requirement

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; ability to obtain & maintain HSPD & Secret, preferred HSPD-12 & Secret Active.

License & Certification Requirements

• District of Columbia: A valid Steam Engineer license (3rd, 2nd, or 1st Class)
• Maryland: A valid Stationary Engineer license (Grade 4 through Grade 1)
• Other Jurisdictions: Equivalent municipal or state Operating Engineer licenses, or an equivalent VMET certification

Shift Availability

• 1st shift – 6:00am–2:30pm, Monday-Friday
• 2nd shift – 12:30pm–11:00pm, Monday-Thursday
• 3rd shift – 10:00pm–8:30am, Monday-Thursday
• 4th shift – 7:00am–7:30pm, Friday-Sunday
• 5th shift – 7:00pm–7:30am, Friday-Sunday

Candidate shift preferences will be considered based on current staffing needs and availability.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and Operation
  • Safely operate, maintain, and monitor boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, and other stationary equipment.
  • Must be experienced in maintenance and repairs on commercial‑industrial building equipment including but not limited to chillers ≥ 500 tons, boilers, pumps, control systems, air handlers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, VAVs, and VFDs. Demonstrate practical knowledge of Chiller Plant Operations, read and understand blueprints, schematics, and specifications, and be able to respond to service calls for gas‑fired boilers, chillers, AHU, fire pumps, generators, UPS, ATS, BAS, and Fire Alarm operations.
• Routine Inspections
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues, ensuring equipment is operating within set parameters and adhering to safety standards.
  • Respond to service calls, determine problems, identify causes, and implement solutions. Complete required documentation using the site CMMS system.
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts; adjust controls for safe and efficient operation; record logs; perform preventive maintenance per approved job plans and company standards.
• Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Documentation
  • Maintain detailed records of all inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements. Ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Compliance
  • Ensure operations adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations and standards related to stationary equipment operations.
• Collaboration
  • Coordinate with other maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to ensure seamless operation and timely resolution of issues.
  • Relay questions, progress, information requirements, and discrepancies; initiate follow‑up action when required.
• Emergency Response
  • Act as a first responder during any stationary equipment emergencies, implement safety procedures, and address issues promptly.
• Continuous Learning
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, equipment, and best practices; attend workshops and training as necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of facilities maintenance experience.

• Demonstrated experience in operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of central utility plant and institutional mechanical systems supporting mission‑critical, government, commercial high‑rise, healthcare, laboratory, industrial, campus, or other complex facility environments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including sequence of operations, product literature, programming manuals, and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Manufacturer chiller training/certification (Trane, Johnson Controls/York, Carrier, Daikin, etc.)
• BAS/DDC platform training (Schneider Electric, Niagara, Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls Metasys, etc.)
• Boiler combustion or burner management training
• NETA/NFPA/ASME‑related operational familiarity
• Industrial or institutional mechanical systems training

Physical Requirements

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Demonstrate physical strength and stamina for tasks such as loading, unloading, operating equipment, and transporting materials. Follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
• Relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
• Work at heights up to 60 feet on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
• Perform repetitive movements such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
• Possess good vision (may be corrected), ability to see in color, and to hear and communicate in English.

Pay Range

USD 50.11 – USD 75.17 per hour.
