Stationary Engineer - Plant Operations - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Keck Medicine of USC is seeking a Stationary Engineer responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing hospital power plant equipment.

Essential Duties:
  • Maintain hospital power plant and equipment.
  • Take equipment readings and record abnormal conditions.
  • Perform repairs on equipment when possible.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the plant at all times.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies in the hospital.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Specific System Knowledge:
  • Boiler Plant: start-up & shutdown procedures, failure response, steam distribution, condensate return, feed water and pumping systems, water treatment.
  • Chilling Plant: start-up & shutdown procedures, failure response, emergency management, chilled water distribution, cooling tower systems.
  • Power Plant: normal and emergency power distribution, generator operation, transfer switches, fuel oil systems.
  • Energy Management System: setting parameters for hospital needs.
  • Hospital Systems: troubleshooting, malfunctions, and service protocols.
  • Domestic Water: systems, soft water, hot water, heating water, shutoff locations.
  • Heating Systems: heat exchangers, piping, start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • HVAC: air conditioning systems, thermostat adjustments, filter media, fan belts, bearings, heat exchangers, pumps and motors.
  • Medical Gases: start-up & shutdown procedures, alarm responses, compressor and distribution systems, emergency shutoffs for gases like CO2, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Medical vacuum, Nitrous oxide.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role within a sub-acute facility, performing preventive maintenance on power plant equipment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Unlimited Boiler Operator's License.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City): must obtain within 30 days of hire if not already held, and maintain renewal.

The hourly rate range for this position is $36.50 - $62.05. USC considers various factors when extending employment offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
