Job summary

Abington Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled facilities technician to operate and maintain stationary steam boilers, pumps and related systems, including water treatment and chiller equipment. You will perform daily chemical water treatment and ensure compliance with safety regulations to keep boiler operations running smoothly.

The role involves routine maintenance, measurements, and minor electrical/HVAC work to support the facilities department and local building needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED Vocational School, or equivalent.
• Understanding of electrical safety and lockout/tagout standards.
• Knowledge of and ability to ensure safe practices in daily operations and maintenance services for physical premises.
• Knowledge of methods and and ability to grasp new concepts, acquire new ways of seeing things, and revise ways of thinking and behaving, with the understanding that this is an ongoing business necessity.
• Knowledge of successful approaches, tools, and techniques for dealing with changes and adapting to a changing environment, ability to adapt as needed.
• Knowledge of and ability to use tools and techniques to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from an emergency.
• Knowledge of HSE policy, ability to implement HSE policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains boilers, chiller and auxiliary systems and reads meters/pressure gauges to ensure safe operation.
• Repacks valves, changes piping, and lubricates compressors and pumps.
• Starts, stops, adjusts and regulates boilers and related equipment to ensure efficiency and continuity of service.
• Cleans boilers, waterside and fire side, and maintains compliance with code requirements.
• Performs daily inspection of boilers, pipelines, and operating equipment for leaks or defective parts.
• Maintains records of gauges and meter readings to monitor fuel and steam consumption and plant performance.
• Communicates with Lead/Chief Stationary Engineers about activities, needs and issues.

Job Duties

Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson Operates and maintains boilers as well as chiller and auxiliary systems by reading meters/pressure gauges and taking necessary appropriate action to ensure safe operation. Repacks valves, changes piping, and lubricates compressors, pumps and related parts on a regular basis. Starts, stops, adjusts and regulates boilers and associated equipment as necessary to insure efficiency and continuity of service. Cleans boilers, waterside and fire side, annually or as required, to meet code and regulation requirements. Performs daily inspection of boilers, pipelines, and operating equipment for steam, water, air and fuel leaks or defective parts. Maintains record of gages and meter readings to determine fuel and steam consumption, steam produced, hot water and chilled/condensed water temperature, chiller operating pressure, etc. Consults with and keeps Lead/Chief Stationary Engineers apprised of activities, needs and issues as they arise. Performs other maintenance needs as required and directed by the supervisor or lead technician.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED Vocational School, or equivalent.
• Understanding of electrical safety and lockout/tagout standards.
