Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a qualified Stationary Engineer to operate and maintain The Miriam Hospital's power plant mechanical systems in Providence, RI. You will monitor boilers, chillers, and generators, adjust controls, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance in a busy hospital setting.

Under supervision, you will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot alarms, maintain fuel and chemical logs, and support patient care operations by keeping critical systems running reliably day

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of four years of high school plus four years apprenticeship training required for City of Providence licensing examination.
  • City of Providence Stationery Engineer license required.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operates high pressure steam boilers, compressors, and central chilled water systems, including pumps, gauges and controls.
  • Operates, maintains and tests emergency electrical generators and related systems.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots alarms across building systems and notifies supervisor when needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and emergency repairs; maintains logs and prepares reports.

Job description

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Lead Stationary Engineer responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant Mechanical Systems. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates high pressure steam boilers, compressors, and central chilled water generating systems, including cooling towers, pumps, gauges, and controls, periodically adjusts controls, as required, and maintains systems for the duty station assigned.Operates, maintains, and tests emergency electrical generators, and related systems, in accordance with government regulations.Performs periodic tests of boiler feed water and cooling water, analyzes results, and provides appropriate chemical treatment to maintain established chemical balance to prevent damage to systems.Monitors Building Management, Medical Gas/Vacuum, Generator, Fire Alarm, Boiler, and Chiller systems; troubleshoots alarms, performs adjustments as required and notifies Lead Stationary Engineer/Director of unresolved problems. May enter or close-out routine work orders in the system as time and/or situation permits, dependent on Power Plant operations and patient safety responsibilities. Monitors levels, places orders, and maintains log of fuel oil, diesel oil, oxygen, and nitrous oxide deliveries, prepares monthly consumption report for Lead Stationary Engineer.Monitors alarm systems, including boilers, chillers, fire, medical gasses, refrigeration, and HVAC systems; reports abnormalities to the Lead Stationary Engineer, and/or Director, if emergency conditions exist.Performs preventative maintenance to system components, including packing valves, replacement gaskets, and lubrication. Performs emergency repairs.Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control, in accordance with hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.Performs other related duties, as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Equivalent to completion of four years of high school plus four years apprenticeship training required for City of Providence licensing examination. City of Providence Stationery Engineer license required.EXPERIENCE:A minimum of one year of related experience is required.

Pay Range:

$26.80-$44.21
