Job summary

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is seeking a skilled Stationary Engineer to operate, maintain, and repair boilers, HVAC, generators, and building automation systems in our Maryland facility. You will monitor performance, perform preventive maintenance, and support safe, compliant production operations.

You'll lead safety inspections, energy management programs, and collaborate with engineers and facilities teams to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs large building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, air compressors, pumps, and electrical systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance schedules and repairs on all building systems.
  • Diagnoses and resolves mechanical or electrical malfunctions promptly.
  • Supervises lower-level engineers or maintenance workers, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and energy efficiency requirements.
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintains logs of system performance and repairs.
  • Monitors energy usage and supports energy-saving initiatives.
  • Responds to emergencies to restore operations quickly.

Main Purpose Of The Job

Stationary Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of stationary mechanical systems, including boilers, HVAC systems, generators, turbines, compressors, pumps, and building automation systems. They ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of facility equipment to support continuous building operations.

ROLE AND ACTIVITY
Operation And Maintenance Of Equipment
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs large building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, air compressors, refrigeration systems, pumps, and electrical systems.
  • Ensures proper functioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment to provide a comfortable indoor environment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and repairs on all building systems.
Troubleshooting
  • Diagnoses and resolves mechanical or electrical malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Identifies system inefficiencies and implements corrective actions to improve system performance.
Supervising And Training
  • Supervises lower-level engineers or maintenance workers, providing guidance, training, and assistance as needed.
  • Reviews and approves work orders, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and according to safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains technical manuals, operational procedures, and training programs.
Safety Compliance
  • Ensures all operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to safety, environmental impact, and energy efficiency.
  • Adheres to safety protocols in the operation of boilers, elevators, and other equipment.
  • Participates in safety inspections and audits.
System Inspections And Monitoring
  • Conducts routine inspections and monitoring of systems and equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Maintains detailed records of system performance, maintenance logs, and inspections.
  • Identifies signs of wear and tear or inefficiencies and schedules repairs before failures occur.
Energy Management
  • Monitors energy consumption and suggests methods for reducing energy costs through system upgrades or operational changes.
  • Implements energy-saving initiatives, such as controlling temperature or humidity levels based on occupancy or environmental conditions.
Technical Support And Collaboration
  • Collaborates with other engineers, contractors, and facilities management teams to support large-scale building operations and projects.
  • Provides technical advice for system upgrades, replacements, and troubleshooting efforts.
Emergency Response
  • Responds to emergencies like power failures, mechanical breakdowns, or heating and cooling issues, providing immediate solutions to restore operations.
Documentation And Reporting
  • Prepares reports on system performance, breakdowns, repairs, and energy usage for senior management or regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date logs of repairs, inspections, and compliance activities.

The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is $50.00 per hour, with opportunities for overtime, shift differential, cold premium pay and annual bonuses (variable depending on company performance).
