Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Power Plant/Stationary Engineer to operate and maintain hospital power plant and HVAC equipment, including boilers, chillers, water systems, and emergency generators.

The role requires reading blueprints and schematics, adhering to safety regulations, and maintaining logs while ensuring reliable utility services for hospital operations across sites in Maryland.

Qualifications

  • Grade 2 Stationary Engineer’s license preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Must have current driver’s license and own transportation to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain power plant and HVAC equipment, including central systems such as hot, chilled and domestic water, fire protection, steam, emergency generators, medical vacuum, and oxygen.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation of boilers, compressors, generators, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct water quality testing, chemical treatments, and preventive maintenance, while responding to emergency repairs and codes as assigned.
  • Support hospital operations by providing repair services and assisting with tasks such as snow removal.
  • Adhere to safety regulations, maintain accurate logs, comply with federal and state laws, and safeguard confidential health information.

Work Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Grade 2 Stationary Engineer’s license issued by the State of Maryland preferred. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc. Must have current drivers license and own transportation to travel between sites.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and materials. Work sites may require access by climbing and crawling and, at times, may be at high or low temperatures. The use of ear and eye protection is required. Exposure to electrical shock, chemicals, dust and other hazards may be present depending on work area.
