Job summary

Westchester Medical Center is seeking a skilled Boiler Operator to assure a healthy hospital environment through proper operation, control and maintenance of steam-generating equipment and related hospital systems. Responsibilities include manipulating valves, inspecting gauges, maintaining logs, performing minor boiler repairs, and responding to alarms or weekend requests.

Requires 3–5 years boiler experience, English literacy, and apprenticeship or related trade training.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years boiler operation and maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manipulates valves to control water and fuel flow to adjust steam pressure.
• Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunctions indicated by observations or warning signals.
• Inspects boiler room gauges and meters against specifications.
• Maintains operating logs: fuel consumption, steam produced, meter readings.
• Performs minor boiler repairs such as replacing gaskets and tightening joints.
• Completes required paperwork; participates in annual employee testing.

Job description

Assure a healthy and comfortable Hospital environment through the proper operation, control and maintenance of steam-generating equipment and other minor repairs of Hospital equipment. and or any other duties as directed to maintain compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manipulates valves to control the flow of water and fuel to increase or decrease steam pressure.
• Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunctions when indicated by observation or in response to warning lights, horns or bells.
• Inspects boiler room observing the operation of equipment meters and gauges, compares findings to defined specifications.
• Maintains operating logs which include: fuel consumption, steam produced, blow-down time and meter readings.
• Records readings from bulk tanks of medical gases; performs rounds as assigned.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance of boilers, i.e., replacing gaskets, tightening joints, repairing valves, repacking pumps, etc.
• Performs other minor repairs on Hospital campus as assigned, or in resonse to erquests from staff on weekends or 2nd/3rd shifts.
• During snowstorms, responsible for sanding/salting of major roads on Hospital grounds and shoveling and sanding/salting of major pedestrian entry points to buildings.
• Completes required paperwork properly, using computer technology enhancements, as required; fulfills annual mandatory employee testing.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 3-5 years boiler operation and maintenance experience preferred.

EDUCATION

• Less than High School; must read and write English

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• Apprenticeship or related trade school training or other directly related work experience.

OTHER

• Valid New York State Driver's License
