Job summary

Airbus Commercial Aircraft in Wichita, KS is seeking a Static Stress Engineer (Contract) to join our Engineering Team. This role supports in-service repair of aircraft structures and requires justification of repair solutions from a static stress perspective, using hand calculations and computer methods.

You will collaborate with Design and Fatigue teams to develop repair concepts, perform stress analyses for metallic and non-metallic parts, ensure airworthiness, and contribute to certification

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering with aero/civil/mechanical emphasis on structural design and analysis.
  • 0 - 6 years analysis experience in airframe design/repair programs.
  • Up to 5% Domestic and International Travel involved
  • Authorized to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship
  • In-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods.
  • Exposure to airframe design, stress analysis, composites, MRB, FAR/JAR/CS/Part 21, Certification, CATIA, NASTRAN, PATRAN and HYPERWORKS is desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

Responsibilities

  • Create high quality integrated and certified engineering repair solutions for the airlines and internal customers within given time scales.
  • Perform stress/strength analyses to assess that structural integrity requirements have been met using standard hand and computer methods.
  • Assignements include structural sizing/documentation and subsequent certification documents for in-service fleet support.
  • Perform durability and damage tolerance analyses to verify that structural integrity requirements have been met.
  • Assignments may include detail part sizing, layout maturation, trade study analysis, weight reduction efforts, certification activity, or in-service support.
  • Liaise with Design, Fatigue and other Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions for the airline customer.
  • Liaise with Principal and Senior Static Engineers in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments.
  • Ensure, with the relevant technical signature delegation, that the final repair solution brings the aircraft back into an airworthy condition.
  • Identify and support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods and tools improvements.
  • Ensure all tasks and activities required for Repair Engineering are correctly planned, monitored and executed to achieve customer time scales.
  • Provide responses for routine repair queries by giving guidance as required within Airbus Operations and Customer Services in a clear and concise manner.
  • Together with other Repair Design and Fatigue Engineers, be a member of an integrated engineering team, ensuring its strategy, policy and direction is maintained.

Job Description

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Static Stress Engineer (Contract) to join our Engineering Team based in Wichita, KS.

This position supports the fleet in-service repair of aircraft structures and is responsible for the justification of repair solutions from a Static Stress point of view, on Time, to Cost and to Quality. Duties include performing static analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts while working in close collaboration with design and fatigue colleagues to provide repair solutions. Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop efficient repair solutions to satisfy airworthiness requirements and customers (Airlines/MROs).

Your Working Environment

Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus is Airbus’ first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe. Our team of 200+ support staff and engineers focus on aerostructure design including analysis of aircraft primary structures, such as wings and fuselages, for all major Airbus products across the globe.

Your Challenges
Primary Responsibilities

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials is required.
  • 0 - 6 years analysis experience in airframe design/repair programs.
  • Up to 5% Domestic and International Travel involved

Physical Requirements
  • Onsite or remote: This position may be able for remote work depending on the needs of the business.

Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this position.

This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
