Job summary

State Public Defender – State of Minnesota is seeking a seasoned leader to oversee Minnesota's public defense system and set statewide policy. You will direct statewide operations, supervise senior public defenders, and coordinate with courts and the legislature to ensure high-quality representation.

The role requires extensive experience in criminal law, strong administrative skills, and the ability to implement strategic initiatives within a government framework.

Qualifications

• Admission to the Minnesota state bar.
• Seven to ten years of experience practicing criminal law.
• Five years of administrative experience including budget management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Chief District Public Defenders and Chief Appellate Defender.
• Lead statewide training programs for staff.
• Serve as liaison with courts, court administration, and legislature.
• Develop and implement statewide policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate with board and administrators on policy issues.
