Job summary

Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) invites applications for a full-time Meat Inspector in the Polk County region of Central Iowa. You will inspect locker plants, small packing facilities, and other meat processing operations to ensure compliance with meat safety laws and humane handling standards.

Essential duties include ante- and post-mortem inspections, sanitation verifications, product examinations, and reviewing records to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and experience in meat/poultry industry or regulatory work.
• Thirty semester hours with related majors (veterinary, animal science, biology, agriculture, etc.) may substitute for the diploma.
• USDA or equivalent courses and HACCP/inspection training must be completed within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ante-mortem and post-mmortem inspections of livestock and poultry.
• Perform walk-through inspections of facilities to ensure sanitation standards.
• Examine finished and in-process products for wholesomeness and labeling compliance.
• Review facility records to verify regulatory compliance and program adherence.
• Enter inspection results in the computer system and communicate findings to facilities.
