Job summary

The DGS Office of External Affairs seeks a Highway Safety Engineer to serve as the statewide technical expert for Louisiana's Strategic Highway Safety Plan and related safety programs. You will identify high-potential locations for safety improvements, conduct data-driven analyses, and manage safety studies and contracts with consultants and universities.

The role requires strong communication skills, a willingness to learn data-driven safety approaches, and experience with safety planning

Qualifications

• Current Louisiana professional engineering license with 2 years of licensed experience in traffic engineering, highway safety, or transportation planning; OR six years of professional engineering experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with Stage O studies, local road safety plans, and safety project management.
• Knowledge of national standards, practices, and policies regarding highway safety planning.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-potential locations for safety improvements using data-driven analyses.
• Conduct safety analyses and manage safety studies and projects.
• Provide expert consultation to legal and risk management divisions.
• Participate in specialized training and coordinate with consultants and universities on highway safety matters.
