Job summary

The Intersect Group is seeking a State Tax Manager in a hybrid Atlanta-based role. You will oversee state and local tax, with emphasis on Sales and Use Tax, researching complex regulations and guiding leadership on compliance across multiple states.

You will manage tax filings, notices, audits, and inquiries while supervising one junior team member. A CPA or Master’s in Taxation and Big 4 experience are highly preferred for this role.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of progressive state and local tax experience with strong indirect tax expertise.
• Extensive Sales and Use Tax exposure across multiple states; nationwide exposure preferred.
• Ability to research and interpret complex state guidance independently.
• Experience supporting multi-entity organizations with complex structures.
• Proficiency with tax research tools, accounting systems, and ERP environments.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and compliance skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and own technical tax matters with limited oversight.
• Strong communication and leadership across departments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee state and local tax compliance with focus on Sales and Use Tax and property tax.
• Coordinate multi-state tax reporting and data for timely filings.
• Handle state tax notices, audits, and inquiries with supporting documentation.
• Research evolving tax regulations and provide recommendations to leadership.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of tax balance sheet accounts.
• Act as a subject matter expert for internal teams on state tax matters.
• Maintain organized tax workpapers and audit-ready documentation.
• Supervise and develop one team member and drive process improvements.
