We are actively seeking a State Tax Analyst to join our Tax team at Masco World Headquarters in Livonia, MI. In this role, you will support Masco’s state income and franchise tax compliance process, analyze diverse business activities for proper state tax treatment, and assist with research, reporting, and process improvements across multiple jurisdictions.

The State Tax Analyst will be actively involved in various aspects of state income tax including compliance, tax accounting support, technical research, and collaboration with business units and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong tax technical skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, technology-enabled environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare state income and franchise tax returns including collecting, analyzing, and organizing data needed for state filings.
  • Prepare and review state tax workpapers including state modifications, apportionment calculations, estimated tax payments, extensions, and supporting schedules.
  • Process state tax estimates, extensions, returns, and related tax payments.
  • Support the state tax accounting process by assisting with state tax provision calculations, deferred tax schedules, and related documentation.
  • Gain an understanding of Masco’s state tax compliance process, including the state-specific modifications and updating our IT systems.
  • Research and analyze state tax laws, regulations, and administrative guidance to support compliance, tax planning initiatives, audit responses, and business transactions.
  • Assist with state tax notice responses, audit support, and information requests from taxing authorities.
  • Utilize tax compliance software, data analytics tools, and internal reporting systems to prepare filings, perform analyses, and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Participate in state tax planning analyses related to mergers and acquisitions, business restructurings, tax credits and incentives, legislative changes, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in researching technical issues, evaluating potential state tax impacts, preparing financial models, and developing recommendations for management.
  • Coordinate with business units and internal teams to gather information needed for state tax compliance, reporting, audits, and projects.
  • Support special projects and provide assistance in other areas of the Tax department during peak reporting and compliance periods.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, improve documentation, and streamline compliance workflows.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum two years of experience in state income tax compliance and tax accounting or related field.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills, including effective prioritization of tasks, strong multi-tasking abilities, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to work optimally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (primarily Word and Excel).
  • Works well independently, as well as part of a team, encouraging collaboration.
