Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) seeks a state safety coordinator to lead the department's occupational safety, security, and industrial hygiene programs. The role operates under general supervision and drives safety culture through strategic planning and policy development.

The position requires coordinating cross-functional safety activities, developing training, and reviewing incidents to implement corrective measures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, Public Administration, Safety Management, or related field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in safety management or risk management, OR
  • Twelve years of experience in safety management or risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates activities related to occupational safety, security, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Refines the vision and implements strategies to drive safety culture within the department.
  • Develops safety policies, rules, regulations, and safe operating procedures aligned with federal, state, and consensus standards.
  • Organizes and delivers training sessions related to occupational safety, security, and risk reduction.
  • Reviews incidents to determine causation and recommends corrective measures to prevent recurrences.

  • Performs, organizes, and develops training sessions related to occupational safety, security, and risk reduction program.
  • Reviews employee incidents to determine causation and develops recommended corrective measures and process changes to prevent recurrences.
Minimum Qualifications
All you need for success:
  • Bachelor's Degree: Business Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, Public Administration, Safety Management, or related field, AND eight years of experience in an area related to safety management or risk management, OR
  • Twelve years of experience in an area related to safety management or risk management.
Special Working Conditions
  • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional license is preferred.
